Greene Exhibitions is pleased to present Rubbernecking in the Stacks, a group exhibition featuring the work of Laura Aldridge, Dave Hardy, Colectivo KissMe, and Alice Tippit. The work on display, though varied in form and content, is unified by a common ease and elegance with which each artist navigates the precarious framework of their own inception. Consistent intricacies and occasional perplexities evoke unexpected anxieties and tension throughout, pushing boundaries and challenging intimacy in complicated and nuanced ways.

Aldridge’s work appropriates artsy gestures and crafty materials with self-awareness, to a point that the then perceived notion of reverence for either becomes confounding, and the focus shifts to the idiosyncrasies of the actual objects themselves.

Hardy’s sculptures defy matter and material, composition and structure, with a graceful yet tenuous balance that yields awe and bewilderment.

Colectivo KissMe is an expansive multinational collaborative group. Imperial Infrastructures, presented here, is one creation in a series of slippery and sprawling performances and installations previously created at and now inspired by a sex motel in Cali, Colombia.

Tippit’s paintings conflate populist design and insular painterly concerns on a familiar, approachable scale with a boldness and confidence that further complements and contradicts what it means to make an image today.
